Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) specialists are also called Physiatrists. Physiatrists strive to improve the quality of patients' lives by improving function. Using non-operative treatments, medical pain management and exercise-based rehabilitation these specialists treat various musculoskeletal (muscles and bones), cardiovascular (heart and blood vessels), pulmonary (lungs and breathing), and neurological (nervous system) disorders, including conditions such as arthritis, back pain, work- and sports-related injuries, and brain or spinal cord injuries.
Visit the patient education library for more information on all conditions that Physiatrists may treat and non-surgical approaches.
