Dr. Mehra specializes in minimally invasive, robotic, and endoscopic neurosurgery. He is fellowship trained in minimally invasive and complex spinal reconstructive surgery. He employs the latest techniques to achieve the best results for each patient, including those with severe scoliosis. Whether you need a minimally invasive procedure with a small incision, a large operation, or non-surgical intervention, Dr. Mehra takes a global approach to every patient to ensure you receive the best treatment possible to improve your quality of life. He is also skilled at peripheral nerve operations, placement of spinal cord stimulators, and intrathecal pain pump insertion. He is trained to perform open surgery for brain tumors and Gamma Knife radiosurgery.

Dr. Mehra grew up in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and completed his undergraduate education at The George Washington University. He graduated from there with honors and Magna Cum Laude designation after studying psychology and neuroscience. He attended medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. There, his work with the cutting-edge Center for the Study of Chronic Diseases of Aging refined his knowledge of the most complex disorders in neuroscience and neuromuscular medicine. He went on to complete a residency in neurological surgery at Michigan State University, and grew roots in Detroit and southeast Michigan. He sought additional training with world-renowned spine surgeons Drs. Dean Chou and Praveen Mummaneni, and completed a fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spine reconstruction at University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Mehra's spine training is unique and comprehensive as he utilizes techniques adopted from experts and mentors in both orthopedic spine surgery and neurosurgery from around the world. One of his objectives is to accomplish the same goals of open surgery with minimally invasive techniques, which hopefully can lead to less morbidity and better outcomes for patients. To help him achieve this goal, Dr. Mehra trained to use the endoscope, the robot, and multiple image guidance systems for increased accuracy, efficiency, and safety for his procedures. He trained to use Gamma Knife radiosurgery for the treatment of tumors, vascular malformations, and trigeminal neuralgia under the guidance of expert Dr. Dade Lunsford at the Center for Image Guided Neurosurgery at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Mehra's training has enabled him to understand and treat the entire neuroaxis. He remains actively involved in several nonprofit organizations including an annual mission trip to Africa to provide neurosurgical care and education to those in need. In addition to having published peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, he has also been an invited speaker at national and international meetings to present his award-winning research.

Dr. Mehra is also fluent in Hindi.
